CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER

(Salary Commensurate with Experience)

California School Employees Association (CSEA), the largest independent classified school employee union nationwide, is seeking a Chief Financial Officer with extensive experience in finance and accounting, budget forecasting and preparation, auditing, treasury/cash management, purchasing/accounts payable, payroll administration, risk management, and pension and investment management functions. Successful candidates will have excellent management, communication and people skills, as well as a proven track record in establishing and monitoring internal control procedures necessary to safeguard the assets and operations of this politically active not for profit organization. The position is located at CSEA Headquarters in San Jose, California.

Duties of the Chief Financial Officer include:

Manage the Association's financial resources including cash balances, investments and trust and pension investments; confer with banks, pension advisers and actuaries, independent auditors, trustees and investment managers; review and suggest plan design and project costs for pensions, health benefits, deferred compensation plans and risk management.

Oversee the preparation of the annual Association budget, direct the forecast of additional funds needed for Association programs and political activities, staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies; direct the monitoring of and approve expendi­tures; direct the preparation of and implement budgetary adjustments as necessary.

Work closely with and provide assistance to the Executive Director, Association President, and Board of Directors, as well as manage and supervise a staff of subordinate level managers overseeing a support staff of 17 bargaining unit employees.

Education and training requirements include six years of increasingly responsible experience in accounting and financial work including at least three years of administrative and management responsibility, and equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in accounting, finance, business administration or a related field.

Position: Regional Organizer
SALARY: $30,000-$35,000 DOE REPORTS TO: Director of Organizing
START DATE: ASAP

The Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles (CHIRLA) is a non-profit organization founded in 1986 to advance the human and civil rights of immigrants and refugees in Los Angeles. As a multi-ethnic coalition of community organizations and individuals, CHIRLA aims to foster greater understanding of issues that affect immigrant communities, provide a neutral forum for discussion, and unite immigrant groups to more effectively advocate for positive change. CHIRLA’s programs include coalition-building and convening of organizations, advocacy around issues affecting immigrants and refugees, community education, service provision and technical assistance, and organizing and leadership development for immigrant workers and youth.

POSITION SUMMARY: The Regional Organizer will be tasked with establishing an Immigrant Organizing Committee in the San Gabriel Valley which will serve in CHIRLA’s mission. The development of this committee will help fulfill some of the goals for CHIRLA’s 5-year strategic goals as well as help advance the Campaign for Immigration Reform. The organizer will be expected to work in coalition with other organizations as well as develop a grassroots membership base in the strategic areas of the San Gabriel Valley.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Organizing and Education

* Development and Implementation of Outreach and Recruitment plan in order to establish San Gabriel Valley Immigration Committee with at least 50 active members made up of youth, workers, and families.
* Development and Implementation of leadership development program for Committee Members.
* Serve as a resource and mentor to members. Includes referring members to services when needed, one on one visits with members, and identifying leadership development opportunities for members outside of the organization
* Development and dissemination of immigrant rights materials
* Educate 200 African American residents about immigration through the Crossing Borders curriculum and 200 immigrant residents about African American history in northwest Pasadena.
* Convene and Facilitate SGV Committee meetings (at least once a month)
* Engage 500 immigrants and non-immigrants to take action on a local community problem.

Campaign Coordination

* Lead SGV Campaign Development and Implementation
* Conduct necessary research for Committee and/or CHIRLA campaigns
* In conjunction with Communications staff, develop and implement media strategies around the campaign and manage media inquiries around worker issues
* Work to adopt a pro-immigrant/immigrant integration policy in Pasadena through the formation of a Pasadena Office of Immigrant Affairs
* Assist in development and implementation of broader CHIRLA campaigns, including member mobilization
* Works closely with Policy Director and Director of Organizing to determine policy priorities for committee and CHIRLA at large

Coalition Building:

* Improve relationships between immigrants and local elected/appointed officials.
* Responsible for representing CHIRLA in local coalitions. Includes including integrating committee recommendations into these bodies, and bringing and taking back coalition/activities/campaign discussions
* Identify any new coalition partners for CHIRLA and/or committee, recommending strategic areas of work and leading those efforts
* Identify and coordinating relationships with existing allies
* Provide training to ally and/or emerging organizations on day laborer organizing strategies and tactics
* Represent CHIRLA with local/regional or national organizations or coalitions as assigned.

Qualifications:

* Minimum two years electoral organizing experience
* Community or worker organizing experience a plus
* Experience in campaign development and implementation
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
* Bilingual English/Spanish a must
* Computer literacy: word processing, internet navigation, and other work-related applications
* Knowledge of and commitment to immigrant and worker rights and CHIRLA mission
