The Metropolitan Democratic Club of Los Angeles is an organization of grassroots Democrats living in and near the city of Los Angeles.
We are a club chartered by the Los Angeles County Democratic Central Committee. Our Club covers the Metropolitan area of Los Angeles. All Democrats are invited to join. Make your community better for everyone.
If you would like to help re-elect Pres. Obama, here's a chance to start in the battle ground states. These were successful grassroots efforts in 2004, 2008 and we will do it again in 2012.
If tea party movement is any indication of how much more difficult things have become in Washington and that we need to elect those that will look out for the working people and the poor, or at least protect existing programs (i.e. Social Security, Medicaid, Medical) then we need to deliver Nevada for the President, so I encourage you to please help. We always start this early in the neighboring red states.
Please respond to the rsvp info below.
Bring a friend (but must rsvp for the friend too!)
Please forward to other progressives.
See you on the road!

Subject: Próximo viaje a Las Vegas para Obama en español
Hello,
The dates for the next California Battleground States Road Warrior Invasion of Nevada are now officially on for September 16, 17 and 18. If you can, plan to arrive on Friday evening, the 16th, as there will be two full days of voter registration action on Saturday and Sunday.
As there is a major local event in the Latino community, we are looking for as many of our Spanish speakers that can travel that weekend to join us in Vegas, Baby!
For those of us who speak a little Spanish, we've attached some key phrases related to voter registration translated into Spanish to practice.
Key phrases
But, if you do not speak Spanish, you should still join us as there will be voter registration action all over the Las Vegas area.
Some of us are flying and renting cars there, others will be carpooling early that Saturday (Sept 17th) morning, details to be provided soon. Hosted housing is available, and some meals with be provided.
It is not often in political campaigning that we have a lot of time for event planning, so lets take full advantage of the time to build this one with maximum participation!
Thank you,
Chris
PS If you cannot make this one, would you please encourage others to join us?

Summer organizers will be trained in the basic principles that have
always built and powered effective grassroots movements. They'll work directly
in communities around the country to organize supporters street by street,
neighborhood by neighborhood.
And they'll recruit volunteers, run events, knock on doors, and work
hard to support the President and Democrats across the country.
By summer's end, their work will have built upon an impressive national
grassroots structure that will help us fight for the issues that matter most.
Apply to be a summer organizer today -- or pass this along to someone
you know who might be interested. The deadline to apply is April 18th:
President Obama said this week that any budget that sacrifices a
commitment to education is a budget that sacrifices our future:
"And I will not let it happen."
Here's why he's taking a stand:
The cuts in the House Republican budget to education would be
devastating for teachers, students, and families -- costing 55,000 jobs,
slashing financial aid for 8 million college kids, and dropping hundreds of
thousands from Head Start, an early-education program proven to help low-income
children graduate high school.
This week, the House passed another short-term extension of the federal
budget that will fund the government through early April -- between now and
then, we need to find common ground.
President Obama is committed to commonsense spending cuts that allow us
to live within our means without sacrificing key investments that will help us
win the future.
With your support today, we can redouble our campaign for a responsible
budget as the deadline nears, with OFA volunteers calling lawmakers and
hand-delivering petitions to congressional offices.
Together, we'll work to make sure that every family, principal, teacher,
and student across the country understands that critical funding for education
is at stake -- and what they can do about it.
House Republicans are proposing reckless cuts that would undo our
progress on health reform, prevent the EPA from protecting our air and water,
and hurt our economy and job creation.
The cuts are particularly bad for education, and when we're talking
about investing in children and schools, we're talking about investing in our
future.
If the House Republican budget cuts are adopted:
-- More than 16,000 classrooms would close;
-- 55,000 teachers would lose their jobs;
-- Nearly 200,000 pre-kindergarten children
would lose access to Head Start; and
-- More than 8 million college students
currently receiving tuition assistance would see their Pell Grants cut.
The budget the President signs must have bipartisan support, but he's
made it clear it also must invest in -- not sacrifice -- education.
Anything less is irresponsible and not worthy of our children.
Your support today will ensure all Americans understand what's at stake.
We'll stand together and support the President as he tries once again to reach
common ground with Republicans.
But we need your help.
Please donate $25 or more to support Organizing for America today:
The White House has announced an important youth
conference call at 9:00 p.m. (EST) on Wednesday with Senior Advisor David
Plouffe, and you are invited to participate. The call will take place
just one day after President Obama’s State of the Union address in front of a
joint session of Congress.
David Plouffe, who served as President Obama’s
campaign manager in 2008, recently joined the White House as Assistant to the
President and Senior Advisor. This conference call with young Americans
will be one of his first public events in his new role.
Stephanie Cutter, Assistant to the President for
Special Projects, will also make remarks during the call. Plouffe and
Cutter will discuss issues of importance to our generation, including jobs and
the economy, education, and health care reform.
In order to participate in Wednesday’s call, you
must RSVP in advance. The dial-in information will then be emailed directly to
you: http://www.whitehouse.gov/youthcall
Don't miss this unique opportunity to interact with
senior White House officials as they speak with young people across the
country.
Sincerely,
Rod Snyder
President, Young Democrats of America
P.S. Let us know what issues you think the
President should emphasize during the State of the Union address on
Tuesday. Leave us a comment on our Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/youngdems
On Tuesday, January 25th, President Obama will deliver his second State
of the Union address.
This speech will mark the start of a new chapter for this movement. 2011
will be a year of building on our past work for a stronger economy and a
brighter future, while also protecting the progress we've made reforming our
health insurance system, reining in the big banks on Wall Street, and more.
To help get the word out about the President's vision for the next year,
OFA volunteers will be holding State of the Union watch parties and strategy
sessions across the country -- and if we're going to have enough events in
enough places, we'll need your help.
The President's speech will be a great chance for us all to get fired up
about jobs, health reform, and everything else 2011 has in store. That means
it's important that we have as many folks watching in as many communities as
possible -- which is why we need you to host a State of the Union watch party,
including a strategy session for planning local action.
Hosting an OFA event has never been easier. You can hold your party at
home, or you can use a community space if local regulations allow it. All you
have to do is fill out a quick form, and we'll set up the online event and send
you everything you need to do the rest.
I'm hoping, as one of our top supporters, that you'll step up and give
folks in your neighborhood a place to watch the speech together and help plan
what comes next for defending our progress on health reform and more.
Sign up here to host a State of the Union watch party and strategy
session on Tuesday, January 25th:
At 5:53 p.m. Eastern Time today (Jan.19th), the House moved to repeal health
insurance reform.
Every single Republican -- all 242 -- voted for repeal.
This is a vote for insurance companies. There is no other way to put it.
Because if the question is what is best for Americans, repeal would
never come up: Health reform is already at work improving the lives of millions
of people. Repeal will result in 32 million fewer Americans with health
coverage -- and add $230 billion to the deficit over the next 10 years.
Republicans in Congress need to know there's a political price to pay
for siding with special interests over the constituents in their districts.
We're putting together a dedicated team of organizers and volunteers
across the country to protect our progress on health reform -- and we need
138 donations from Los Angeles to make sure they have the resources they need.
The Affordable Care Act addresses and ends some of the worst
insurance-industry abuses against families, children, seniors, and the sick --
the cost of repeal would be steep:
-- Families, many already struggling to get by,
could lose their coverage if someone is in an accident or becomes sick -- right
when they need it the most.
-- A woman with cancer could have her coverage
stripped away because of a tiny mistake on a form.
-- Pregnant women, children born with
disabilities, and anyone with a pre-existing condition -- as many as half of
Americans under age 65 -- could face discrimination or be denied coverage by an
insurance company that deems them too costly.
-- A senior on Medicare who falls in the
"donut hole" in prescription coverage would once again have to make
up that cost out of pocket -- and start paying for all preventative care.
-- The deficit would increase by $230 billion over
the next 10 years -- placing an unfair burden on our children and grandchildren
and future generations who will have to pay for this mistake.
-- Insurance companies could go back to working
for corporate profit and CEO bonuses -- instead of for the people who pay their
premiums.
These cruel and unjust practices are exactly why we organized, donated,
volunteered, and spoke out for months, helping to pass legislation 100 years in
the making. It's why we worked with the President and Democrats in Congress to
reform a broken and unsustainable health care system.
Now, that progress is being threatened -- and we have to do everything
we can to protect it.
Organizing for America is running a full-fledged campaign to drive this
message home in communities across the country. Our organizers and volunteers
will be knocking on doors, writing letters to their local papers, talking to
neighbors, and calling their senators.
Support from 138 folks in Los Angeles will ensure we have the tools and
resources we need to counteract and stop the repeal effort.
Subject: Phone bank for the DREAM Act and "Don't Ask, Don't Tell"
Volunteer...this week only!
This is the last month the current Congress will be in session, but
there is still important work to be done before lawmakers go home for the
holidays. With one big push, we could accomplish two major items on the
President's agenda: repealing "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" (DADT) and
passing the DREAM act.
The DREAM Act provides a crucial shot at the American dream for
thousands, and repealing DADT is an important step for better securing our
country.
And both are currently up for debate in the Senate, with votes expected
very soon.
So this Wednesday, December 8th, OFA supporters across the country will
be phone banking in support of these two priorities. We'll contact fellow
supporters in key states and ask them to call their senators before these
votes.
The DREAM Act would provide a path to citizenship for undocumented youth
who work toward a college degree or serve in the military -- helping those
folks who make this country better through their service and hard work.
"Don't Ask, Don't Tell" does nothing but discriminate against
thousands of patriotic men and women who want to serve their country. That's
why President Obama pledged to repeal it: It weakens our national security,
diminishes our military's readiness, and violates the fundamental American
principles of fairness and equality.
Please help the President pass these two important items on his agenda. Join
the phone bank in Los Angeles on Wednesday:
Pop quiz: Which of the following will make up a majority
of the deficit in the next decade?
A) Social Security
B) Medicare
C) The National Park Service
D) PBS
E) George Bush's tax cuts
Give up? The answer is E -- George Bush's tax cuts.
But this week the co-chairs of the so-called
"Deficit Commission" came out with their recommendations on how to
fix the deficit. Do you know what their answer was? They said they wanted to
cut A, B, C and D.
That's right -- the co-chairs of the
Deficit Commission said that they wanted to cut Social Security, Medicare, the
National Park Service, PBS and a whole lot more. But they're OK with leaving George Bush's tax cuts in place
even though those tax cuts are projected to make up over half of the deficit
over the next 10 years.
These guys are dead wrong and it's time Congress knew
just how wrong they are -- sign the pledge calling on Congress to reject the
Deficit Commission's right-wing attack on Social Security.
Not only are they dead wrong on how to fix the deficit,
but they're probably the only two people in the country who think it's a good
idea to cut Social Security.
On Election Day, Democracy for America polled voters
nationwide on some key issues, and when asked about Social Security only four
percent said they supported making cuts to Social Security. The
vast majority of Americans -- 85 percent -- said they don't want any cuts to
Social Security.
But they don't get a vote in the Deficit Commission, so
let's make sure Congress hears what they have to say -- sign our pledge today.
The tide is turning. Our candidates are fighting back hard. And all
those shady right-wing outside groups who thought they could just buy a
Republican Congress to do the bidding of special interests are encountering
strong resistance from our candidates, the DCCC and grassroots supporters
like you. All of this is thanks to the support you are providing.
On behalf of the DCCC, I cannot thank you enough for shattering our
Two Weeks Out Deadline to ensure that Democrats enter these final days with
strength and momentum.
But with so many too-close-to-call races about to reach their tipping
points, we need to raise $250,000 more by Friday at 5PM so we can double our
efforts.
Friday marks just 10 more days until Election Day. Your support in
these final 10 days will make the difference between victory and defeat for
many Democrats in too-close-to-call races.
Let's not have a single regret the day after Election Day.
Chris Van Hollen
DCCC Chairman
P.S. Friday marks just 10 more days until Election Day. With so
many too-close-to-call races about to reach their tipping points, we need to
raise $250,000 more by Friday at 5 PM so we can wire money to our campaigns
and double our efforts. Contribute today.

Top Corporations Helping U.S. Chamber of Commerce Influence Campaigns
Prudential Financial sent in a $2 million donation last year
as the U.S. Chamber of Commerce launched a national
advertising campaign to weaken the historic rewrite of the
nation's financial regulations.
Dow Chemical delivered $1.7 million to the chamber last year
as the group took a leading role in aggressively fighting
proposed new rules to tighten security requirements on
chemical facilities.
And Goldman Sachs, Chevron Texaco, and Aegon, a multinational
insurance company based in the Netherlands, donated more than
$8 million in recent years to a chamber foundation seeking to
limit the ability of trial lawyers to sue businesses.
These large donations -- none of which were publicly
disclosed by the chamber -- offer a glimpse of the chamber's
money-raising efforts, which it has ramped up recently in an
orchestrated campaign to become one of the most well-financed
critics of the Obama administration and an influential player
in this fall's Congressional elections.

This Saturday, October 2nd, OFA volunteers and
staff will be celebrating the grand opening of our new Florence-Firestone
office, and I hope you can join us.
The event will be a great opportunity to learn how to get more involved in OFA,
and to have fun doing it. Bring your cell phone and charger, because before
celebrating with food and entertainment, we'll be making calls to first-time
voters and asking them to commit to vote this fall.
Starting today,
your insurance company can’t drop you just because you get sick. No longer can
your child be denied coverage if he or she is born with an illness or
disability. And the limit that insurance companies often place on lifetime
benefits will be prohibited. The days when your family could be plunged into
devastating medical debt and bankruptcy because of a serious medical condition
are becoming history.
If these
protections are repealed, Americans will once again be at risk of being
dropped, denied or discriminated against. Fortunately, the Affordable Care Act now protects working families from the worst
practices we’ve grown accustomed to in health care and is putting patients—not
insurance executives or bureaucrats—in control of our own health care.
Today, Americans
with private health insurance will now enjoy the following rights:
YOU CAN NO LONGER LOSE YOUR COVERAGE WHEN YOU GET SICK Before health care reform, insurance companies were
able to drop your coverage when you became sick. Known as a “rescission,” this
practice plunged many responsible families who had paid their premiums into
mountains of medical debt with little recourse to fight back. Today, your
health coverage is protected and cannot be “rescinded” when you need it most.
YOUR CHILD CAN GET COVERAGE REGARDLESS OF MEDICAL CONDITION Until today, children who are born with or develop an
illness could be denied coverage by insurers for having a “pre-existing
condition.” Those uninsured children were much less likely to get critical
preventive care, including immunizations and checkups, than their peers. The
health care reform law prohibits this practice—now every child born in America
has equal access to the health insurance market.
YOUR ADULT CHILD CAN STAY ON YOUR PLAN UNTIL AGE 26
One in three young adults has no health insurance—so when they become ill or
get injured, we all pay for their emergency room visit. Young people are less
likely to have jobs that offer them coverage or do not yet make enough money to
pay their premiums. Under the new law, starting today all insurance companies
will allow your adult child to stay on your health plan until age 26.
NO MORE ANNUAL OR LIFETIME LIMITS ON YOUR COVERAGE You might think it will never happen to your family.
You are struck with a life-threatening illness or injury that requires
expensive and long-term treatment. Did you know that, until today, your
insurance company could put an annual or lifetime cap on how much treatment
they cover? Today, lifetime caps are outlawed. And over the next three years
annual limits will be phased out, starting at $750,000 this year.
Yesterday morning, Republicans unveiled their plan for governing -- their Pledge to
America.
They're pledging to cut taxes for millionaires and billionaires.
They're pledging to roll back regulations on big oil and Wall Street.
They're pledging to strike down rules reining in the credit card lenders and
the insurance companies.
They're pledging to increase the deficit by trillions of dollars.
Their agenda is a windfall for the folks spending millions to put them back in
power -- the lobbyists, the big corporations, and the special interests.
We're not sitting by watching this
scheme become a reality. Our plan to win this fall is as
different from that of the GOP as our agenda for the country.
We've got organizers on the ground in every state, working with campaigns and
volunteers to coordinate an unprecedented voter-turnout operation.
We're knocking on thousands of doors and making millions of calls to get our
voters out to the polls.
We pay for this work with our By the People
Fund -- and we're trying to reach 3 million grassroots donations
through the course of this campaign.
To stay on pace, we need 5,241
donations by the end of the week.
This Republican Pledge to America is nothing new. Even John Boehner said,
"We are not going to be any different than we've been."
They're offering up the very same agenda that put us on a path to the worst
economic crisis since the Great Depression.
That means they're not prepared to discuss protecting Social Security and
Medicare.
They have no plan for education or teachers.
They offer up no solutions to the outsourcing of American jobs.
They lay out no plans to invest in key industries like clean energy and
manufacturing.
They don't talk about rebuilding our crumbling roads, bridges, and railways.
With your help, we can send the
Republicans back to the drawing board.
Together, we'll make sure the country never returns to the failed policies of
the past. But that means moving forward with our plan to win the 2010
elections.
Republicans have made it abundantly clear what we'll see if they take control
of Congress:
-- A possible government shutdown that would stop Social Security and
Medicare checks from being sent;
-- Attempts to repeal our hard-fought victories on health insurance and
Wall Street reform;
-- A new Speaker, John Boehner, with a history of handing out lobbyist
checks on the floor of the House of Representatives; and
-- Endless partisan gridlock and investigations into ginned-up
controversies.
Working together, this movement can make sure that doesn't happen, and we'll do
it the same way we elected a president and passed comprehensive health
insurance reform -- by talking with family, friends, and neighbors about the
importance of voting to move America forward.
OFA volunteers are getting together to do just that this Sunday, September 19th
in Los Angeles -- can you join us?
Here are the details:
What: Vote 2010 Event
Where: Original Farmers
Market at the Grove

Los Angeles, CA 90036
This event in Los Angeles is part of our ambitious Vote 2010 plan to reach out
to 15 million voters before the November elections.
We've gotten a great start.
But, now, with just 46 days left until November 2nd -- and with early voting
starting in some states next week -- we don't have a moment to lose as we kick
into high gear.
Please join us this Sunday, September 19th. We have so much left to accomplish,
and we simply cannot afford for America to move backward to the failed policies
that Republicans will push for if they win.

Yesterday, 40 Republican senators blocked the passage of legislation that would counteract the growing influence of corporations in the wake of the Citizens United Supreme Court decision.
The DISCLOSE Act would have helped shed light on the hundreds of millions of dollars corporations and special interests plan to spend to influence our elections this fall -- and would have helped ordinary Americans to make their voices more clearly heard in campaigns across the country.
Republicans believe that killing the bill and strengthening corporate power gives them a tactical edge, allowing right-wing groups to raise more than ever to help their candidates win.
It's a stark reminder, both of what we're up against in November and the reason we all need to fight so hard to elect Democrats. Now more than ever, we need people like you on sidewalks and doorsteps, talking to your friends and neighbors about what meaningful reforms like these would mean in their lives -- and why it's so vital that they make their voices heard this fall.
Sign up now to volunteer for our Vote 2010 efforts and help fight the Republican special-interest agenda.
Despite the fact that 80 percent of Americans disagreed with the Citizens United decision -- which eliminated limits on corporate spending in political campaigns -- obstructionist Republicans have sided with the special interests yet again. But that doesn't mean we can't hold them accountable for it.
Republicans believe the support of the big corporations and the special interests is all they need, but we have a different approach. We're building a new Democratic Party -- one driven by the opinions and support of Americans around the country and focused on grassroots organizing.
That's something Republicans just don't have: supporters like you.
The obstruction of bills like DISCLOSE affects every voter in the country -- and we're all in this together. We need your help on the ground now, helping to make the case to friends and neighbors about the importance of their vote in November's elections. Please sign up to volunteer today:
National Hispanic Environmental Council (NHEC) Presents:
Minority Youth Environmental Training Institute
2010 Information and Application
Dear Students, Educators, NHEC members, and Community Leaders:
For those who may not have seen our previous email, the National Hispanic Environmental Council (NHEC) is still accepting applications from students to participate in our upcoming 9th annual "Minority Youth Environmental Training Institute", to be held August 13--22, 2010 in beautiful Glorieta, New Mexico.
Like our NYC and CA regional Institutes, the national Institute in New Mexico is an intensive, residential, multi-day, science-based environmental education AND environmental career awareness program for talented teens, aged 16--19, selected competitively from all across the U.S. Note that students in both high school and college are eligible to apply.
Through a full scholarship NHEC will COVER ALL COSTS for accepted students, including round-trip airfare, housing, meals, books, science equipment, and more for the 10 day long Institute.
The NM Institute is being funded by a number of sponsors, including the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Nuclear Regulatory Commission, USDA Natural Resource Conservation Service, and the National Park Trust. Like past Institutes, we use a variety of facilities as learning sites, including national parks, national forests, national laboratories, and more.
Students will be housed at the Glorieta Conference Center and closely supervised by NHEC instructors and staff. The Institute is designed to help build the next generation of environmental leaders and professionals. Students learn about key environmental, energy, and natural resource topics, as well as the wide range of careers in the environmental, natural resource, and energy arena. Students also receive information about college majors and universities in these fields.
In addition to our Instructors, NHEC also has an overlay of "role models" -- working minority professionals from every environmental field -- who each year participate in the Institute as volunteers. A number of role models are present every day to inspire the students, help teach the curriculum, and share their environmental expertise, technical knowledge, and cultural heritage.
Click here for all materials necessary for students to apply to the Institute. Please read the "Fact Sheet" first, as it has key information about the program. Interested students should apply as soon as possible as the Institute is fast approaching.
We also ask that you forward this email on to those you think might be interested in this highly educational program, including qualified students, fellow educators, high schools, colleges, youth organizations, and more. We appreciate your help.
Feel free to contact NHEC, especially our Programs Coordinator, Juan Rodriguez, atjrodriguez@nheec.org or myself, at
rrivera@nheec.org if you have any questions. Thank you.
Republican Senate candidate Carly Fiorina has argued her corporate background shows she has the experience to make important decisions for California -- even though she was fired when she failed to deliver as CEO for Hewlett-Packard. Given the state's tattered economy and 12.5-percent unemployment rate, Californians simply can't afford a far-right candidate with a record of sending jobs overseas.
We've put together five facts to demonstrate that point -- and it's important that every Californian sees them before making their decision this November.
Five facts about Carly Fiorina:
1) Named as one of Conde Nast Portfolio's "20 Worst American CEOs of All Time," she laid off more than 30,000 workers, shipped jobs to China, and was responsible for a 52-percent drop in HP's stock price. Tweet this. Share on Facebook.
2) Endorsed by Sarah Palin, Fiorina is against a woman's right to choose, wants to repeal health care reform, and supports the extremist Arizona immigration law. Tweet this. Share on Facebook.
3) She defended HP's practice of shipping jobs offshore by calling it "right-shoring," and said in a 2004 speech that "there is no job that is America's God-given right anymore." Tweet this. Share on Facebook.
4) She denies that climate change is a serious national issue, referring to it mockingly as "the weather." Tweet this. Share on Facebook.
5) She expects Californians to turn out for her on Election Day, but she hasn't turned out herself: Since 2000, she only voted in just eight out of 23 elections -- skipping the 2000 and 2004 Presidential primaries. Tweet this. Share on Facebook.
We need your help getting the word out. Will you share these facts about Carly Fiorina with five friends?
Carly Fiorina has been spending millions of her own money to try and obscure her record. By spreading these facts far and wide, you can help make sure Californians know the truth.
Thanks,

In the Heartland, New Anti-Immigrant Law Passes
Fremont, Nebraska-another small meatpacking town whose immigrant population has swelled in recent decades-made headlines this week when it passed a controversial, anti-immigrant referendum. Even though the immigrants were recruited to move and work there, the vote means they may now be forbidden from renting housing there and it purports to ban businesses from hiring undocumented immigrants. Anyone failing to abide by either restriction will face harsh fines levied by the local government.
The passage of the Fremont, Nebraska comes in the wake of five other states - including South Carolina, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Michigan - seriously considering passing legislation similar to Arizona's SB1070. According to NDN, lawmakers have expressed similar sentiments in 17 other states.
Fremont's recent anti-immigrant law is just one more example of the urgent need for comprehensive immigration reform. Until we pass federal solutions, states will continue to pass costly and reactionary laws that cause more harm than good. We need serious, workable solutions that go after abusive employers, restore the rule of law and move us forward together.
Whitman Tries to Walk Back Immigrant Bashing with Spanish Language Ad Buys.
Although Meg Whitman managed to win the Republican Gubernatorial primary in California a few weeks ago, the road to the November general election will not be an easy one. After months of anti-immigrant rhetoric, it hasn't taken Whitman very long to start begging Latino voters for their support through targeted Spanish language ad buys in key markets. But, California Latinos aren't fooled, and they certainly haven't forgotten Whitman's previous statements, including, "Let me be very clear: I am 100 percent against amnesty, no exceptions."
For Massachusetts' Immigrant Families, Two Steps Forward and One Step Back
Last month the Massachusetts Senate passed a provision that required the state's Attorney General to setup a hotline to report businesses hiring illegal immigrants. However, after sustained pressure from the Massachusetts SEIU State Council, SEIU Local 615 and other progressive organizations, in addition to a 17 days vigil led by immigrant students outside the statehouse, the measure was rolled back.
I hope that you are all doing well and recovered from the primary election. I wanted to inform you of our next Regional Meeting. With the primary behind us it would be great to hear of the things that occurred in your communities as well as share with you information from the state party. We’re getting closer to an official Snoopy license plate!
Thank you for signing up for the official California Snoopy license plate. We’re excited to announce that we are halfway to the number of folks needed to make this a reality. We can’t wait to see Snoopy doing his signature happy dance on an official California license plate.
As you know, we need owners of registered vehicles in California to stand up and let us know they want to see Snoopy on a California license plate. When the plate is produced, proceeds will go towards supporting museums in California communities, and you’ll get the chance to show off your devotion to your favorite beagle.
We’re now calling on YOU to spread the word and help us reach this goal.
Don't be shy! Please tell your friends, family members, co-workers, and any other Snoopy lovers about this campaign. With your help, we can make the official California Snoopy license plate.
Ask them to sign up TODAY at www.snoopyplate.com! Thanks for your help!
Know any young progressives who would be inspired by a three-day conference on politics, journalism, and policy?
I'm sharing this invitation to the Campus Progress National Convention with you because:
• If you, like me, are no longer a "young" progressive, you can pass the invitation along.
• It shows—if there was any remaining doubt—that the progressive "kids" are all right.
• If you wish you could participate, you can still be a part of the action by donating here.
Thanks for your support!

Hey Alan,
My name is Michael Tracey and last year was my first time attending the Campus Progress National Conference.
I wasn't really sure what to expect beyond some speeches, panels, and (most importantly) free lunch. I figured I would have fun and meet new people, but I never anticipated that attending the conference would inspire me to enter the field of progressive journalism.
Then Bill Clinton—the conference keynote speaker—told me he supported same-sex marriage.
I recalled that he had recently said his position on same-sex marriage was "evolving," so as he was making his way down the rope line shaking hands and posing for pictures, I asked, "President Clinton, do you support equal marriage rights for all?"
And he said yes.
The next day at the conference, editors from The Nation gave me the opportunity to write an article about the revelation. The story spread like wildfire and was even brought to the attention of Robert Gibbs, the Obama administration's press secretary, during the daily White House press briefing.
Inspired by what happened, I started my own newsmagazine—The Perspective—at The College of New Jersey last August. You might have seen me referenced on the "Rachel Maddow Show" or the Huffington Post for a controversial interview I conducted with Mike Huckabee in April—Google "Huckabee" and "puppies" for an amusing recap.
Here's the point: You won't regret attending the Campus Progress National Conference. You can apply here if you haven't done so already. You'll leave inspired, refreshed, motivated, and—with a little luck—ready to make some headlines of your own.
See you in July!
Michael

This weekend, Organizing for America is holding
voter registration events across California to make sure that all eligible
voters will be able to cast ballots in the June primary.
We've got some big battles ahead in California and for our country -- Wall
Street reform, immigration reform, and creating a clean-energy economy, to name
a few. And it's crucial that we elect Democrats who will stand with the
President and fight for the issues important to us. Registering voters is the
first step.
No prior experience is necessary, and registering voters
is fun, easy, and will make a big difference. Organizing for America volunteers
will be on hand to provide all the materials and guidance you'll need to be
successful.
And before turning out to register new voters, make sure you yourself are
registered to vote (or that you've updated your registration if you've moved).

Someone asked, "why a Democratic Party Local Convention in the Antelope Valley - that's a red district." Our answer: "We need to show the Republicans in this red district that we mean business and we, are Taking It All Back!"
It is very important that Democratic Clubs from all of the State that are available, pour into the Antelope Valley and support the Inspiring Values Democrats Club's efforts to launch the first ever Democratic Party Local Convention in the middle of a red district.
If you can not attend, make your presence known by placing an advertisement in our Program Directory / E-Magazine where you can congratulation political officials, candidates the Democratic Party Local Convention and promote your individual businesses and Democratic Clubs and Caucuses.
